In Europe, partial discharge testing has been introduced for the safety standards pertaining to electronic equipment. The standard EN50178 requires that insulating components and elements meet the specified non-partial discharge and partial discharge resistance requirements. KPD2050 is a partial discharge tester that complies with the partial discharge test specification defined in EN50178. The defined test, in rough terms, is intended to verify that "partial discharge becomes extinct at 1.25 or more times the rated voltage." It is a nondestructive test aimed at identifying potential failures. The partial discharge tester KPD2050 is an innovative, bench work-type test system designed to conduct partial discharge tests to this standard.
